Background

Generally referred to as secondary packaging or traded units, outer cases are designed to collate or protect primary packaging (e.g., a box containing many soft drinks, a shrink wrap or a carton containing a tube of a product)

Typical outer case coding applications

• Applying customer or product information directly onto corrugated boxes at the end of a line: Thermal Inkjet
• Printing a label to be applied to the wrapping of a traded unit: Desktop Thermal; Thermal Transfer
• Product codes and dates printed directly onto to film before being converted into bags or packs: Hot Foil; Thermal Transfer
• Barcodes and retailer information printed directly onto board wraps or trays before going through the shrinkwrap: Thermal Inkjet
• Lot, expiry dates and/or graphics printed directly onto cartons before primary packs are inserted: Hot Foil; Thermal Inkjet; Thermal Transfer; Offline Overprinting
• Printing works order numbers onto timber used on crates; Thermal Inkjet
