BACKGROUND
Orbis Healthcare are a rapidly expanding manufacturer of over-the-counter medicines. At their production plant in North West London they wanted to find a coding solution that would allow them to pre-code a batch of ten or fifteen thousand cartons ready for hand-packing in their production area. Having already been using them for a range of coding consumables, they contacted Rotech to see if they could help.
WHAT ROTECH DID
An on-site demonstration was quickly arranged of the Feeder 150 off-line carton overprinting system during which an entire batch of ten thousand cartons was oveprinted, by Orbis staff, in well under two hours. The benefits were clear, the hot foil code was of first class quality, and shortly after Rotech delivered a new machine.
OUTCOME
As the business has grown, so have the size and frequency of the batches, yet the machine has been more than able to respond to the increased demands placed upon it.
Some months later, Orbis took delivery of a new piece of equipment for packing their product into single-dose sachets. As with all medicines, a batch number and expiry date needed to be printed on each pack and, once again, Rotech were asked for their advice. The solution in this case was to fit a Coder 60 (the same model of hot foil printer as used on the Feeder 150) to the sachet machine.
As with all Rotech installations, a simple, cost effective, frame was designed that could be manufactured and installed within a matter of a couple of weeks. Adjustment was provided to ensure that any point on the pack could be printed and, by use of the correct hot foil tape in conjunction with Rotech’s precision engraved type, a high quality, rub resistant code now appears on all packs.
