Scanners and Software
A crucial part of barcoding is knowing that it will be correctly read at the warehouse or at checkout. There is a wide range of handheld, 2D, USB, wireless and portable barcode readers and scanners available from leading brands such as Datalogic, Opticon, Motorola and Metrologic.
Here we list some of the scanners and readers we can offer. We have not attempted to list them all, as new products are coming out all the time. Do call or email us for more information on what we can offer.
- CDD readers: A range of wired, wireless and fixed position barcode scanners that have moving parts and are very reliable. They need to almost touch the code to scan it, and they have a limited width (i.e., the width of the read head, 65-90mm). Used where the throughput is not very great (e.g., in bookshops and libraries)
- Laser scanners and readers: A range of laser devices for handheld, hands-free or presentation scanning. Laser has the longest range scan of all the technologies, from near contact to more than 1 m with certain models. Used for general retail and industrial applications (heavy duty models).
- 2D/PDF: Barcode scanners / barcode readers for 2D barcodes, including Datamatrix, Aztec and PDF417. Many companies are now discovering that they can put far more information into a barcode than just numbers. Used increasingly for industrial applications where manufacturers are now using the 2D code.
- Verification: A range of barcode verifiers/verification systems, and PC-based and portable systems are available. Failed barcodes are costly, time-consuming and embarrassing for your business and scanning is no substitute for verification because no two bar code readers are identical. Essential for all companies designing or printing their own barcodes, to ensure that an acceptable barcode image is created.
- Software: Many labelling software solutions on the market (e.g., Bar Tender, EnLabel, LabelShop and Solo). Your specific requirements will dictate the most suitable software package for you.
