BACKGROUND

L’Oreal was having problems with line efficiency, causing a backlog of product. The printers seemed unreliable, and the bar codes were in danger of not scanning properly. Printheads were being replaced too often. Overall, far too much engineering time was being spent on the lines.

WHAT ROTECH DID

We inspected the printers to better understand the problems and collected samples of the materials and ribbons being used. We then conducted print trials with several manufacturers,
visited the site to perform tests and checked the barcodes with a verifier. We found a suitable grade of ribbon, supplied a test batch and monitored its performance.

OUTCOME

The new ribbon grade performed well:

• better print quality
• less energy is used to make the print, saving on printheads
• lower cost
• shorter delivery time

Line efficiency improved and the engineers now spend less time dealing with line problems.
